SHORT BIOGRAPHY

William DePaolo, PhD, is the Chief Scientific Officer at Tend Health Inc. Dr. DePaolo received his PhD from Northwestern University in Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis and completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Chicago. His first faculty position was at the University of Southern California where he was appointed Assistant Professor of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, Director of the Committee on Microbiome-Host Interactions in Disease, and Associate Director of the Graduate Program in Biomedical and Biological Sciences.  He was recruited by The Department of Medicine at the University of Washington in 2017 as an Associate Professor with Tenure, Director of the Center for Microbiome Sciences and Therapeutics and received the Lynn M. and Michael D. Garvey Endowment in Gastroenterology.  His multidisciplinary and innovative approaches to science earned him publications in top tier journals such as Nature, Science and Cell and funding by the NIH, that began during his postdoctoral fellowship continued until his last day in academia. He served on numerous review panels for grants including NIH, American Cancer Society, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and NASA. In addition to his scientific achievements, Dr. DePaolo  is a strong advocate for the dissemination of accurate and useful medical information to the public and has achieved this through his contributions to The Today Show, Oprah Magazine, Huffington Post, Buzzfeed Media and an artist-in-residency program established through his laboratory.
